Smoke Detectors

As electricians K-Electric takes your families safety seriously we recommend every household and office have several smoke detectors.  Smoke detectors are now required by law and we sometime wonder when we hear of deaths from fires in the home, what happened to their smoke detector?  Did they have one to begin with?  In many cases we find out the batteries were expired or the smoke detector was not located in an area where it was able to be heard by the entire family.

These senseless deaths are tragic and preventable.  Ask yourself. in the event of a fire, are you certain your smoke detector will save the lives of you and your loved ones. The U.S. Fire Association (USFA) reported 397,650 fires between 1998 & 2007.  Annually these fires caused 3,040 deaths & 14,960 civilian injuries.

Smoke detectors should be on every level of your home or building, they should be in kitchens or any area where a considerable amount of heat is being produced such as a room with a wood burning stove or a server or electronics rooms.  They should be near every bedroom in the house and in some cases they must be present in stairways, halls and garages.  In addition, new construction laws require that smoke detectors be hooked up to the electrical wiring, be interconnected and have a battery backup system in place.

If your smoke detectors are not currently hooked up to electrical wiring with a battery backup we can help!

The National Fire Protection Agency highly recommends replacing your smoke detectors every ten years because as the system ages the electrical components become less reliable.
